America's donor database is lacking
In America, only about 3% of eligible people are registered as potential bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) donors. In other countries, however, there is much more awareness. For example, in 2012 Germany made up nearly 25% of all donors world wide. These countries have been able to implement effective education techniques and programs to generate growth in their registries. For instance, in Germany, citizens have the opportunity to swab when they register for their drivers licenses.
